Course Description:
The Access Technology team is delighted to offer the first in-person Introduction To Access Technology immersion. Join Kacie Cappello, Debbie Worstman, and Gabriel Griffith to explore the concepts and tools you will need to use devices confidently and comfortably. We will discuss access technology vocabulary in an approachable, digestible and jargon-free manner. We will provide overviews of low vision enhancements and spoken feedback tools available for computers, smartphones and tablets. There will be workshops on dedicated devices, getting to know your phone, options for notetaking, and access-optimized apps, resources and technical support contacts.
Please note that lunch will not be provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own bagged lunch.
Course Prerequisites:
To participate and fully benefit from this class, students must:
- Live in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin or Humboldt county.
- Be new to Access Technology, having not received prior one-on-one or group training.
- Be curious and open to learning basic, beginner Access Technology specific information.
Be comfortable learning in a group setting. This means:- Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
- Do give others a chance to ask questions if they haven’t gotten to do so already.
- Please refrain from sharing personal, private, or sensitive information.
