Career Opportunity: Assistive Technology Specialist for Sensory Access Foundation

Salary:  $50,000+ Depending on experience

Sensory Access Foundation (SAF) is seeking a highly skilled individual to perform comprehensive evaluations to determine accessibility needs for employment and educational contexts for people who are blind or visually impaired.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION
The Assistive Technology Specialist (ATS) incorporates SAF’s service delivery model in performing comprehensive evaluations of blind and visually impaired consumers’ needs in employment and educational contexts.  The goal of the evaluations is to determine which mainstream (PC, Macintosh, other) and assistive technologies or strategies will assist the consumer in achieving their employment goals.  The SAF model requires the ATS to couple extensive computer and assistive technology experience with an ability to serve as a communication liaison between the various individuals and agencies associated with each case.  This position requires diplomacy, good judgment, initiative and independence, and organization in solving a variety of problems.  This position is based in our Sunnyvale office.  SAF covers the state of California; therefore, this position does require travel.

Major tasks:

1.  Go to job sites and perform assessments to determine what technologies and strategies will aid the vision impaired client to retain their job 2.  Assess vision impaired students to determine what technologies will aid them in obtaining their educational goals 3.  Write reports with your findings. 4.  Demonstrate technologies such as screen readers, screen magnification, Braille technology, video magnifiers, and others 5.  Troubleshoot these technologies. 6.  Configure computer systems and technologies to fit the user’s needs 7.  Train on the above technologies 8.  Document your work

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree is a must

Experience with the above technology is a must

Experience using and configuring Windows OS is a must

Very good verbal and written communication is a must.

Experience configuring Mac is a plus
