Background:

CaliforniaVolunteers (CV), within the Office of the Governor, is charged with increasing the number of Californians engaged in service and volunteering throughout the state. CV administers AmeriCorps, Citizen Corps, the California Volunteer Matching Network and the Cesar Chavez Day of Service and Learning programs as well as guides policy development to support the nonprofit and service fields.  CV is led by a Cabinet Secretary and works closely with a 25-member Commission appointed by the Governor.

The California Volunteer Matching Network (CVMN) is designed to engage more Californians in volunteering and service, and features a highly interactive volunteer matching tool at www.CaliforniaVolunteers.org.  CVMN works closely with “Hub” organizations (Volunteer Centers, Hands On Network affiliates, municipal volunteer programs, and others) that help potential volunteers connect with quality-assured volunteer opportunities in their own community.

Position Description:

Under the leadership of the Assistant Director, Volunteer Action, the CVMN Associates will coordinate contract management and invoicing for CVMN;  collect, analyze and prepare reports;  maintain key databases; oversee related AmeriCorps*VISTA programs; and provide support to the Assistant Director to build existing and establish new initiatives.  The CVMN Associates will work with other members of the Volunteer Action team and other CaliforniaVolunteers colleagues to accomplish program goals.

Duties:

Oversee CVMN and WE Connect VISTA programs, including:

Programmatic supervision of VISTA Leader

Support development of annual VISTA proposal to the Corporation for National and Community Service

Reporting – including tracking VISTA activities to ensure project outline is being followed

Recommend corrective actions for VISTA members and/or Hubs that are not following VISTA program protocols
VISTA recruitment

Coordinate and maintain annual Hub contracting process and internal database

Support Finance and Administration staff in the successful tracking of Hub invoices

Track, analyze and prepare CVMN Hub reports – monthly, annually, special requests (i.e. budget-related)

Supervise management of online database of Volunteer Management Training listings

Assist with the logistics of CVMN projects, meetings and activities

Create program documentation including letters, meeting notes, reports, etc.

Support Assistant Director of Volunteer Action with implementation of existing and new strategic initiatives

Support Assistant Director of Volunteer Action as requested on special assignments

Assist with the logistics of Volunteer Action projects, meetings and activities

Create program documentation including letters, meeting notes, reports, etc.

Support development of CaliforniaVolunteers.org website content as requested

Serve as a member of the Volunteer Action team, including weekly team meetings and assisting other team members with projects, as necessary

Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree

·         Two to four years progressively responsible experience in the nonprofit or social services sector

·         Familiarity with volunteer management principles and protocols

·         Strong written and oral communication skills

·         Ability to travel occasionally

·         Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at one time, particularly those that are high-profile and           time-sensitive

·         Strong computer skills
