Northern Rockies AER TMAP Presentation

Northern Rockies AER TMAP Presentation

Oct 23

Note: This webinar starts at 1:45 p.m. Pacific Time or 2:45 p.m. Mountain Time.

On Friday, October 23, LightHouse Orientation & Mobility Specialists, Jennifer Huey and Sarah McIntyre, and MAD Lab Director, Greg Kehret, along with Steve Lowry, a Teacher of the Visually Impaired at the Washington State School for the Blind, will Present a live webinar at the Northern Rockies AER (Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired) conference.

The webinar will extoll the virtues of Tactile Maps Automated Production (TMAP) - a project promoting independent travel and tactile map literacy for blind people, that has timely applications for O&M instruction in a distance learning context. Participants will gain an understanding of how to use the TMAP app to generate braille and tactile street maps of any address, and supplement Orientation & Mobility instruction using TMAP effectively.

In addition to demonstrating the use of TMAP for Orientation and Mobility, the presentation will also touch on Compensatory Skills necessary for accessing the core curriculum including concept development, communication modes, organization and study skills, access to print materials, and the use of braille/Nemeth, tactile graphics and object and/or tactile symbols.

This webinar will be of particular interest to O&M Instructors, TVIs and parents of blind children. The Northern Rockies AER annual conference will be held virtually on Friday, October 23.
