This position is based at our retreat center, Enchanted Hills, in Napa, California. Enchanted Hills caters to various clients and hosts in-house programs, including the cherished tradition of a summer camp that fosters adventure and lifelong friendships for individuals with visual impairments.

OVERVIEW:

The Cook II position is a vital, full-time staff role at LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Napa, CA. Reporting to the Head Chef, the Cook II plays an integral part in kitchen operations, ensuring timely meal service while maintaining standards for food quality and consistent recipe preparation. This position requires strong communication skills, teamwork, and contribution to the overall success of kitchen operations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year of culinary experience in a commercial setting required
  • Knowledge of principles and practices within the food profession
  • Valid CA food handlers permit
  • Formal culinary training preferred
  • Ability to follow directions and willingness to seek clarification
  • Professional communication with co-workers and other departments
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Maturity of judgment and behavior
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • High standards for work areas and personal hygiene
  • Compliance with dress code requirements

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare food with precision and consistency following organization’s recipes 
  • Ensure consistency and superiority in food preparation, quality, and service 
  • Apply safe food handling practices and operate kitchen equipment 
  • Set an example for kitchen staff by following safety, hygiene, and performance protocols 
  • Complete daily checklists accurately 
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and stocking of coolers and storage areas 
  • Label, date, and wrap food products in accordance with regulations 
  • Follow protocols to document food waste 
  • Care for kitchen equipment 
  • Create a welcoming environment for guests and employees 
  • Adhere to in-house, local, and state hygiene policies and guidelines
  • Willingness to perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Capable of significant walking over uneven terrain
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Lift up to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally team lift/move 50 pounds
  • Manage physical activities such as standing, bending, stooping, stretching, exposure to sun and heat, and varying environmental conditions
  • Safely work with sensitive materials and/or chemicals
  • Ability to independently travel to all LightHouse campuses and throughout the community as needed.
