    This is a Bay Area Outreach Recreation Program (BORP) Adaptive Sports program, in partnership with Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Join Shifu Ralf Somack for this free, 16-week online class specifically designed for the blind and low vision community. This is a pilot program and participant feedback is important. This 45-minute class will be taught seated. Tai Chi is a set of slow, gentle exercises and a form of moving meditation practiced for relaxation, health, exercise, and self-defense. In this program, you will learn the first 24 movements of the Sun style system. Sun Style is particularly well suited for people new to Tai Chi as it is easy to perform and it contains powerful Qigong influences that calm the mind and promote deep breathing. We will provide overviews of low vision enhancements and spoken feedback tools available for computers, smartphones and tablets. There will be workshops on dedicated devices, getting to know your phone, options for notetaking, and access-optimized apps, resources and technical support contacts.

    Please note that lunch will not be provided. Students are encouraged to bring their own bagged lunch.

    Course Prerequisites:
    To participate and fully benefit from this class, students must:

    • Live in San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin or Humboldt county.
    • Be new to Access Technology, having not received prior one-on-one or group training.
    • Be curious and open to learning basic, beginner Access Technology specific information.
