Orientation and Mobility Specialists from LightHouse for the Blind will introduce participants to multiple GPS apps during the four-session course. Participants will become familiar with features in Soundscape, Apple Maps, and Google Maps and learn how it can be integrated into regular travel. Classes will be taught via Zoom from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the following dates: This course is for DOR students with intermediate to advance iPhone skills who are interested in developing the navigation skills needed to retain or gain employment. Class size is limited to 8 students and is currently full. The class will culminate in a GPS App Scavenger Hunt. Who can benefit from this eight hour course?
The fee for this course is $330 and is limited to eight participants. This course may be supported by the Department of Rehabilitation with approval and authorizations (individuals must first contact their counselors). Limited scholarships are available for eligible students. The class runs June 15, 17, 22 & 24 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The RSVP deadline is June 1. Each Wednesday morning we offer a series of short, meditation-based practices for relaxation and stress reduction. The group is appropriate for both beginners and advanced practitioners and instruction is provided in all aspects of the practice. Instructor Jeffrey Schneider has more than 40 years of meditation and teaching experience. It is a virtual class using the Zoom platform—everyone is welcome as little or often as they like. Classes meet once a week, and each class is 2.0 hours. The concepts and skills learned in the course can be applied to most Independent Living Skills. This course is appropriate for students who are new to the Lighthouse, new to vision loss, and who are ready to actively participate in all 4 classes. Course Goal: To provide students with strong foundational skills to increase their awareness of the tactile sense in all aspects of daily activities. We want this to become a natural way of interacting with and exploring the environment. Dates: Fridays, from 10:00 to 12:00 (including a short break) 4 Classes: June 4, June 11, June 18, June 25.
