    Let's gather together in the 11th floor art space at LightHouse San Francisco at 1155 Market to explore a different art process, style or media each moth while connecting with fellow creatives. These are exploratory, process-oriented classes that invite you to work at whatever level you are, be it first timer to expert.
    During the month of October, celebrate white Cane Day, Disability Awareness Month and any other identity or truth you wish to share out loud. From producing signs for the White Cane Day bridge walk to speaking out about identity, be prepared to create out LOUD.

    What do you get when you cross a lollipop stick, a couple bits of tape, a snippet of string and a single bead? Believe it or not, they create the coolest DIY lapel pin ever. Help Lighthouse celebrate mobility empowerment and independence by joining together to create white cane lapel pins that may be given out during the forthcoming Golden Gate Bridge walk. No experience necessary to help out, just a bit of volunteer mindedness, a love of supporting good community and interest in making things.

    As the October air gets cooler and the leaves begin to turn, join friends inside for drinks and conversations. This month 30% and Growing will be meeting at Tap in Lounge in Berkeley (2012 Shattuck Ave., Berkeley, CA 94704): a bar and restaurant with New York Style pizza and Indian style appetizers. Come out and enjoy food, drinks and comradery with others who are blind and low vision, as we navigate different aspects of the workforce. We will be gathering at 6:00pm.

    It’s time for another intergenerational Reel Escape Audio Description Movie Club with your blind and low vision friends of all ages. This time around, our club members have chosen Coco. Coco is a story that follows a 12-year-old boy who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family among the living and to reverse his family's ban on music. Our featured film will start after we get a chance to learn a little bit about who has joined us. After the film, we will have space to talk about the film or just connect with your LightHouse friends.

    Come one, come all to our second annual Family Pumpkin Palooza! We're brewing up a cauldron of Halloween excitement that the whole family can enjoy. This thrilling event will feature a unique blend of creativity, inclusivity, and spooky spirit. The afternoon will start with some pumpkin carving followed by a costume contest. Our Halloween theme festival hosted by the LightHouse Youth Program team takes place at our 1155 Market ST. headquarters in San Francisco.

    Program Highlights
    🎃 Pumpkin Carving Led by Blind and Low-Vision Mentors:
    Step into a world of sensory delight as our blind and low-vision mentors guide youth and their families through the art of pumpkin carving using nonvisual techniques.
    👻 Get Ready for Spooktacular Fun in our annual Costume Contest!
    Dress to impress in your most hauntingly creative costumes! We encourage everyone to participate, whether you're a ghostly ghoul, a bewitching witch, or a heroic superhero. Prizes await the spookiest, funniest, most original, and most creative family theme costumes!

    What to Bring:

    • Your enthusiasm for Halloween fun
    • Your amazing costumes for the costume contest
    • A pumpkin (We welcome families to bring their own pumpkins to carve; however, LightHouse is happy to help provide for those that request them.)

    In addition to our family fun taking place at the Pumpkin Palooza, the Community Services Team will be hosting several other community activities that day that you and your family may like to attend. Please check our calendar for information about the other activities taking place that day.
    Who: All families with at least one blind and low vision family member of any age
    What: Family Pumpkin Palooza with pumpkin carving, and a costume contest
    When: Saturday, October 28, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm
    Where: 10th floor of LightHouse Headquarters at 1155 Market St. San Francisco
    Program fee: To help offset program expenses we are requesting a $10 donation per participant or $25 per family who wish to take part in pumpkin carving. In addition, San Francisco residents participate for free thanks to a grant from the San Francisco Department of Disability and Aging Services.
