Jul 7How can art contribute to creating a more just and empathetic world? How might artists draw from their identity, culture, and heritage to inspire fresh perspectives on tradition? Join us for a thought-provoking in-person tour of "Cara Levine: To Survive I Need You to Survive" as we shed light on Jewish tradition and rituals, examining them through the prism of contemporary art, and connect to current social issues. We will explore artworks that delve into concepts of grief, the life cycle, and interconnectedness with our community and environment.
In addition to verbal descriptions, this tour will provide a unique opportunity to engage with art through touch and sound.
After the tour, stay around for an optional art activation inspired by the works experienced in the tour.The CJM is opening their doors early to offer private time for our group to explore the galleries, so please arrive by 10:00 so we may all be let in together.
The museum is located at 736 Mission Street between fourth and third streets, across from Yerba Buena Gardens with BART and Muni access at Powell Street.

This virtual writing workshop series will help you grow confident in several genres: poetry, personal essay/op ed, journalism, and fiction. It will also address professionalism including: how to submit your work, how to pitch ideas to editors, and what it takes to have a writing career. Each month a visiting author will give students an overview of the genre, give an assignment for the following week, and provide spoken feedback on a portion of the work as well as suggestions for next steps.

Jul 17Vision is a peer-led drop-in support group that runs on a 12-week cycle of topics based on Hannah Fairbairn’s 2019 book, “When You Can't Believe Your Eyes: Vision Loss and Personal Recovery”. On the first and third Mondays of the month, we meet to discuss different topics and share our experiences, thoughts, and knowledge. We are people with similar experiences who genuinely want to support one another in all aspects of living independently with our changing vision. Reading is not required.
