Gmail Hands-On Workshop

Gmail Hands-On Workshop

Jan 12

Gmail, it's everywhere you want to be… Connected to the Internet. Welcome to the world of tomorrow, and web apps. Gmail is built to act as an application inside your browser. This means you can access it with just your favorite screen reader and browser, but still use time saving keyboard short cuts to make navigating easier. It also means that it is necessary to learn just a few new tricks. Gmail, and other web apps mix the way that you would navigate on the desk top with how you navigate a website. On Saturday, January 12th join the Access Technology team at the LightHouse to learn about how Gmail works with your screen reader and how to navigate and use it efficiently. We will discuss how Gmail differs from other websites and help you to make the most of its online interface. This course requires that you bring your own device, and be comfortable using your screen reader to browse web pages and in the desktop environment on your computer, and that you have a Gmail account. An RSVP is required for this class, and space is limited. To register, email ahogan@lighthouse-sf.org This class is free to participants through support from the City of San Francisco’s SF Connected program.

Try It Workshop: Pole Dancing

Try It Workshop: Pole Dancing

Jan 12

The Lighthouse is partnering with San Francisco Pole and Dance to present a series of four Try It Workshops in 2019. If you've ever wanted to try Pole Dancing, this workshop is for you!  We are looking for a small group of blind and visually impaired adults to attend a private class where you will learn the basics of pole dance in a safe and supportive environment. Because of this wonderful partnership, we can offer this class at the very low cost of ten dollars. Please RSVP right away by calling or emailing Amber Sherrard at asherrard@lighthouse-sf.org or (415)-694-7353. Space is very limited.

This Try It workshop is a great way to get exercise! The LightHouse has partnered with the United States Association of Blind Athletes and Anthem Blue Cross for the National Fitness Challenge.
