10:00 am: Sterling Adaptives OrCam Demonstration at LightHouse SF (in-person)10:00 am: Sterling Adaptives OrCam Demonstration at LightHouse SF (in-person) – Sterling Adaptives, who provide the latest in access technology products for people who are blind, low vision or have other disabilities, is providing a free demonstration of two OrCam products on November 1 in partnership with the LightHouse Access Technology department. The products demonstrated will be the OrCam MyEye 2 and the OrCam Read, both of which are access technology devices which access print using text-to-speech and Voice Assistant technology. OrCam MyEye 2This is a wearable device that attaches to glasses. It’s activated by pointing gestures or by following the wearer’s gaze and reads printed and digital text aloud. It also helps with navigation and object recognition. It includes interactive reading, which allows the wearer to do a voice search for specific text or assist with identification of objects. 6:30 pm: Goalball with BORP (in-person)6:30 pm: Goalball with BORP (in-person) – Bay Area Outreach Recreational Programs is once again hosting BORP Goalball Practice every Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The gym is located at 2100 Browning St. Berkeley. Practice is open to all, no experience necessary. Whether you’re a goalball pro or new to the game, you now have the chance to get exercise and meet new people. Created in 1946 as a way to help blind and low vision veterans rehabilitate, participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal. If anyone playing the game has some level of vision, they wear a blindfold. The practice is designed for all ages and experience levels and is free of charge. If you do not have your own goalball equipment, you’ll be provided with elbow pads, knee pads, and eyeshades.

This session is open to blind and low vision high school students and recent high school graduates. This time around, we’ll focus on how fall effects the plants, animals, and landscape of the camp and how we sense these changes. From our taste, to smell and even how things feel, fall brings many changes to camp. You’ll learn not only how to sense the changes, but also why they happen. Cost: $50 for transportation. You will hear accessible apps like Microsoft Soundscape in action, and try features out for yourself. Whether you’re rediscovering your favorite coffeeshop, or preparing for your next great adventure, you’ll be ready to boldly go where you’ve always wanted to go! With each gathering, participants will have time dedicated to updating others about their projects and learning a little about that month’s mentor. Most importantly there will be time to polish with your blind and low vision friends. Students who sign up for the program will receive the basic materials and equipment to get started with wood polishing. Those students who remain active in the program and improve their skills will become eligible for additional raw materials that they can turn into art or gifts for loved ones. 6:30 pm: Goalball with BORP (in-person)6:30 pm: Goalball with BORP (in-person) – Bay Area Outreach Recreational Programs is once again hosting BORP Goalball Practice every Wednesday from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. The gym is located at 2100 Browning St. Berkeley. Practice is open to all, no experience necessary. Whether you’re a goalball pro or new to the game, you now have the chance to get exercise and meet new people. Created in 1946 as a way to help blind and low vision veterans rehabilitate, participants compete in teams of three, and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal. If anyone playing the game has some level of vision, they wear a blindfold. The practice is designed for all ages and experience levels and is free of charge. If you do not have your own goalball equipment, you’ll be provided with elbow pads, knee pads, and eyeshades.

8:00 pm: Reel Escape Audio Description Club: Friday Evening Daredevils (online)8:00 pm: Reel Escape Audio Description Club: Friday Evening Daredevils (online) – We all need an escape at times, and with the Real Escape Audio Description Club you can do just that with your blind and low vision friends. With the success of the first two seasons of Daredevil, we thought it would only be wise to continue the Marvel series with season three. Daredevil is at TV series about a blind attorney by day and vigilante by night. There will be time to watch each week’s episode and connect with your EHC and LightHouse friends. Parents Please Note: The Daredevil TV Series has adult content and is rated TV-MA and contains the following: crude indecent language (L), explicit sexual activity (S), and graphic violence (V). Read a Parental Guide for Daredevil. If any youth under the age of 18 wish to join this program, they must have a parent or guardian contact a LightHouse youth team member with written permission for their child to participate.
