6:00 pm: #BESEEN : Community Building, Volunteer Training & Important Information on PRIDE!6:00 pm: #BESEEN : Community Building, Volunteer Training & Important Information on PRIDE! – Join us for this special training and community building conversation for all Pride participants, allies, volunteers, and any folks still on the fence about participating in our Pride contingent and festivities. The training portion will cover how to be an effective human guide and what it means to show up as an “ally” for community members with multiple marginalized identities. The training will also go over logistics, what to expect, and instructions for the day of the Pride parade, for both community members and volunteers. Following the discussion, we will be having a special poster decorating party. An important aspect of the BE SEEN contingent is that those marching with us feel seen and represented in a way that is meaningful for them; and one way to do this includes carrying signage or posters conveying personalized messages. We encourage everyone who is participating to join us in making posters we can carry as a community. We will have poster board and art supplies, and you may bring anything that you’d like to add personal flair. This is also our opportunity to discuss our community chants for the day of the parade. Participation in this event is optional for parade participants, but is strongly encouraged for volunteers and human guides for Pride. To register for this event please contact Laura Millar at 415-694-7345 or lmillar@lighthouse-sf.org. 6:00 pm: Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters6:00 pm: Share Our Strength's Cooking Matters –

Staff TrainingStaff TrainingJun 17 – Jun 21 Enchanted Hills Camp Staff Training 10:00 am: Knitting10:00 am: Knitting – Every week, our knitters gather to share their purls of wisdom and get in the loop on each other’s latest project, and usually end up in stitches spinning yarns. Whether you knit for pleasure, distraction or just practical economics, or you’ve never done it before and want to give it a try, there’s always room for another loom. Learn, refine, or teach a skill that makes your gift-giving budget lighter weight or support a student-led altruistic project like knitting chemo caps, beanies for babies, lap blankets or other creative applications. 6:30 pm: Pride Happy Hour & LGBTQ+ Community Conversation6:30 pm: Pride Happy Hour & LGBTQ+ Community Conversation – The month of June is LGBTQ+ Pride month, with lots of festivities happening around the Bay, and the LightHouse is buzzing with pre-Pride planning! The Community Services Team would like to invite our LGBTQ+ community members, their families, friends and allies to celebrate the intersectionality of LGBTQ+ and blindness at our “Pride Happy Hour & LGBTQ+ Community Conversation” featuring a special panel discussion. Our conversations will center on LGBTQ+ heritage and intersectionality within our community. Get started with the 30% & Growing crew at 5 PM for a special Pride Happy Hour edition of 30% & Growing to mix and mingle before we dialogue and discuss. At 6:30 PM, join us for an engaging evening and discussion about what it means to live at the intersection of multiple marginalized identities. Individuals with multiple marginalized identities are among the most stigmatized and excluded in our society. The stigma faced by our community often leads to poor health and education outcomes, affecting chances for participation in society and further perpetuating violence, abuse, and exploitation. At the LightHouse we are committed to changing this reality and have several programs tackling some of the issues most prevalent in our community. This Community Conversation will bring together disabled LGBTQ+ community members and organizers who identify as blind or visually impaired to consider the current state of disability activism in LGBTQ+ communities. Topics of conversations will include: employment, health, housing, relationships, identity, and the unique needs of our community. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to explore intersectionality and diversity in our community. To RSVP for this event please contact Laura Millar at lmillar@lighthouse-sf.org or 415-694-7345. If you haven’t registered to march in our pan-disability contingent you can sign up here. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/join-us-for-pride-2018-and-be-seen-tickets-36231902596 |
