Loving-kindness meditation, also known as Metta, is a gentle practice that helps quiet the inner critic, lift your mood, and increase empathy. Each session guides you through extending compassion to a loved one, yourself, a neutral person, someone you may find challenging, and ultimately to all beings, using the simple phrases: May you be safe, may you be happy, may you be healthy, may you live with ease. Open to all experience levels, this practice offers a calming space to relax, reconnect, and cultivate compassion.

The EBC campus Labyrinth is accessible to walkers with white canes, guide dogs, wheelchairs or two people side by side. Walking for stress reduction, mindfulness meditation or enjoying the fresh air, it quiets the mind and opens the heart. Tactile handheld Finger labyrinths are available in the office.

5:30 pm: LightHouse Public Board Meeting

Members of the public are invited to attend the Thursday, October 2, 2025, meeting of the Board of Directors of San Francisco’s LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired. This virtual meeting will be held via Zoom and will run from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Pacific.

Please Note: The meeting will start at 5:30 and will head into executive session until 6:30. At that time, we will resume the public agenda, which will include time for public comment. 

RSVP’s & Public Comment

Thirty (30) minutes will be reserved for public comment. Members of the public will have up to three (3) minutes to comment.

If you would like to attend the virtual meeting, please complete the following form. Link:  LightHouse Public Comment and RSVP Sign Up form.

Whether you plan to have a public comment or not, you will need to fill out this form to get the Zoom info.  Zoom information will be emailed closer to the date of the board meeting.

10:00 am: White Cane Day Celebration

Our 3rd annual march across the Golden Gate Bridge will take place on Saturday, October 4. This is a free event, open to all ages and all who are interested. Bring your canes, your guide dog, and your sighted allies as we all come together to celebrate the BVI community! Participants can come to the EBC or LH locations for LightHouse shuttles, or meet us at the North Vista Point. An after-party with light refreshments will be held post-march at the LightHouse HQ in San Francisco.

White Cane Day Schedule

  • 10:00 AM — March across the Golden Gate Bridge begins
  • 1:30 PM — Shuttle will depart to Earle Baum Campus

Important Information

  • The march across the Golden Gate Bridge is a 1.9 mile walk. We kindly ask that all marchers take the proper precautions to ensure a safe and comfortable walk.
  • San Francisco weather can be unpredictable! Please be sure to monitor the weather as the date approaches and dress appropriately.
  • Light snacks and refreshments will be provided after the march, but we encourage all participants to come nourished, hydrated, and prepared for the long walk.

The events for the upcoming week are read aloud on our event hotline every Friday, which can be accessed by calling 415-694-7325.

The LightHouse is scent-free. Please abstain from wearing colognes, perfumes, or other scented products. Additionally, coffee must be securely lidded at all times and citrus should not be peeled on the premises.
