Here is a message from Steve and Nancy Gill about the Gill Benefit Concerts:
“In 1997, shortly after she graduated from Los Altos High School, our 18-year-old daughter, Anne Gill, was in a near-fatal car accident that left her blind and brain injured. When Anne returned home In the spring of 1998, we were frustrated to discover that while many programs either served those with traumatic brain injuries or helped the blind and visually impaired, very few resources were designed to help people with multiple disabilities, like our daughter. Therefore, we were delighted to find out that the LightHouse for the Blind offered a session at its Enchanted Hills Camp (EHC) for visually impaired adults with other disabilities as well. Anne and other participants enjoyed spending five days in the Napa hills, participating in activities like horseback riding, swimming and hiking with a remarkable, inspiring staff. Our gratitude for the camp’s existence, our appreciation for the incredible patience and compassion of the staff (many of whom are visually impaired), and our desire to support the special needs session at EHC inspired Steve, a veteran Bay Area actor/singer and the founder of Menlo School’s Fine Arts Program, to organize the first benefit concert for the LightHouse in 1999. The LightHouse has used the proceeds from these concerts to provide scholarships to those attending Enchanted Hills Camp and help fund rebuilding projects in the aftermath of the devastating 2017 fires. For this year’s benefit, Steve and his good friends, singer Mollie Hudner Thomson, guitarist Bob Feiner, and drummer Steve Beitler, will present “On The Road Again, Willie Nelson’s Letters to America.” We hope that you enjoy the show. Your contributions will help the LightHouse continue providing a very special experience to blind adults like Anne.”
