Sensory Development Workshop for Orientation & Mobility

Oct 15

Students will explore the information provided by different canes and cane tips and learn to use their hearing in more skilled ways, including working with ambient sounds and beginning echolocation. Ambient sound skills developed will include sound identification, localization, and alignment; judging distances using sound; and focusing on key sounds and filtering out unnecessary sounds. Time frames given include a one-hour lunch break (students should bring their own lunches; lunch not provided). The fitness room will be used for ambient sound skill development, but the workshop will include exploration of the 11th and 10th floors as well. Students should have had prior O&M training. RSVP by Friday, October 12th at  5 PM to Briana Kusuma at 415-694-7335 or bkusuma@lighthouse-sf.org.
