Are you curious about BDSM, kink and/or attending a public play party, but find yourself unsure of what to expect as a person who is blind or visually impaired? Well it is time to satisfy that curiosity! Society of Janus is partnering with the LightHouse for the Blind to help you navigate those tricky waters with this Introduction to the Kink community workshop, as well as a few fun community events to help you get more plugged in and involved.
Who: Adults (ages 18 and older) who are blind or have low vision. You may bring an adult guest with you. Must RSVP.
When: Tuesday, August 22, 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Where: 1155 Market St., 10th Floor, San Francisco, 94103
Workshop topics covered (just to name a few):
- The Kink/BDSM community
- Meeting and conversing with others
- Discussing and negotiating enthusiastic consent
- Personal responsibility and safety
- Rules of the dungeon, both written and unspoken
- Appropriate expectations, etiquette, and behaviors
There will be plenty of time throughout the presentation and after to ask any questions. There will also be the opportunity for a tactile “show and tell” with a variety of toys and props that you might see or experience within the community. This workshop is tailored specifically for people who are blind or visually impaired allowing for folks to explore areas or interest in a safe and supportive environment. All workshop participants are welcome to bring an adult guest. All participants must pre-register with Laura Millar and be over 18 years old to attend.
About Society of Janus
The Society of Janus is a San Francisco-based non-profit support and educational group for people interested in BDSM (Bondage and Discipline, Domination and Submission, Sadism and Masochism, and other alternative consensual sexual practices). As we define it, BDSM can and should be a healthy means of self-exploration and self-expression.

About the Workshop Presenters: Reika and Jeremy
Jeremy, also known as Rifraf in the BDSM community, has been a member of Society of Janus for over 25 years. He has been playing publicly for the past six years and educating within the community for the past two years. He is the current Society of Janus Membership Director. He identifies as a Dominant/Master and enjoys a variety of different play techniques.
Reika, also known as WistfulThoughts in the BDSM community, has been part of the public community for close to six years. She has been involved with Society of Janus for the past four years and has held a variety of positions throughout her time with the organization. She is currently the Orientation and Outreach Director. She has been presenting classes for Society of Janus and personally outside of the organization for the past two years, covering topics from BDSM 101, Society of Janus history, the ins and outs of electrical play, consent and negotiation. Just to name a few. She has a service oriented heart and enjoys being a resource for those looking to dip their toes in the BDSM community.
