Guest Speaker Series: Jonathan Lyens, a Career in Civil Service

Mar 26

For the past decade, Jonathan Lyens has served as a local community advocate and public servant, fighting for those without a voice and working to ensure San Francisco remains welcoming and affordable for all residents. He served in the SF Mayor’s Budget Office during the Great Recession, SF Department of Human Resources, and currently in the SF Department of Public Health as a Senior Contract Analyst. When not advocating for more effective and efficient city government from within City Hall, he serves tirelessly on a variety of state and local boards, including the Richmond District Community Advisory Board, the FDR Democratic Club of San Francisco, and the State Council on Developmental Disabilities. He is no stranger to politics, either, having managed the campaign of a candidate for Supervisor and made a run for a Supervisor’s spot of his own. As a blind San Franciscan, public transportation is an issue near and dear to Jonathan, and he is currently making a run for the BART Board on behalf of District 8, where he will carry his knowledge and skills in community advocacy, negotiation, public finance, labor relations, and large bond projects to improve and revitalize BART’s infrastructure and ensure a strong system for the next generation.
