Carving a Pumpkin Non-Visually

On Friday October 19th 2018, from 4PM to 7PM, the LightHouse Rehabilitation Training Department will host a new workshop on Carving Pumpkins Non-Visually. The class facilitator Bobbi Pompey, an Independent Living Skills Specialist, will guide students through the process of turning pumpkins into Jack’o’Lanterns, candle holders, punch bowls, and more!

The class will be held in the Pre-Function area of the LightHouse Headquarters in San Francisco, Located at 1155 Market Street. To ensure effective student-to-instructor ratio, attendance is limited. You must RSVP at least 36 hours in advance in order to ensure an adequate amount of supplies.

What will you learn?

  • Selecting the appropriate pumpkin based on the project you are creating
  • Creating a tactual template from both common and specialty items to serve as your guide for cutting
  • Carving/cutting the pumpkin into your desired design
  • Preserving your pumpkin to increase it’s longevity

Participation Criteria:  Students must have some experience and comfort using knives. For training we will be doing some  learning using training shades. If you have a favorite serrated knife please feel free to safely bring it to the class.  Also come with ideas of what you’d like to create!

The cost of the class is $25.00 which includes your pumpkin to take home. Contact Bobbi Pompey bpompey@lighthouse-sf.org or 415-694-7613 to sign up for the class.
