A workshop for those supporting someone who is blind or visually impaired to better understand how to help, navigate LightHouse services and other resources, and build a stronger partnership.
Do you have a loved one who supports you and may be unsure of what to do now? Are they concerned about your ability to continue living happily and independently, or unsure of what services exist to support you? The LightHouse invites them to Building a Partnership. In this class, we will explore practical ways to support you throughout your blindness journey. Participants will learn about LightHouse services, establish clear expectations, and understand shared responsibilities between you, your support system, and service providers. Topics include orientation and mobility, access technology, independent living skills, Braille, and Community Services programs that support connection and engagement. There will also be time to connect, ask questions, and leave with resources.
Who Should Attend: Anyone in a close relationship with a current LightHouse student (18+), including partners, children, parents, siblings, and friends. Participants should be comfortable learning in a group setting, willing to participate, able to attend the full session on Zoom.
