Jul 29(1 event) 12:30 pm: Hands On Ukulele (in-person) – Earle Baum Campus, 4539 Occidental Rd, Santa Rosa Always wanted to play an instrument and not sure how to get started? Come to the EBC campus on Tuesdays for an all levels Ukulele class. The parts of the ukulele, strings, chords, are all taught through description and assistance. Volunteers, called chord callers, will verbally call out the cord ahead of time, as an accessible way of reading music. The class starts at a more beginner level allowing for everyone to play and warm up, and progresses to more challenging songs. Playing music has been known to develop dexterity, improve cognitive function, exercises the brain, enhances memory, and is simply FUN! Bring your voice and enthusiasm and join in the fun. In this six-week workshop, we’ll explore poetry as a powerful response to life’s moments. Through discussion, guided prompts, and contemporary examples, you'll be encouraged to find or deepen your poetic voice. No rhyming required. Sessions include instruction, time for questions, and the opportunity to listen to and reflect on shared poems—your own or the work of published poets. Participants will write between sessions and may choose to share their work for supportive feedback. We’ll begin by exploring how you write and what tools or technology you use to capture inspiration. Optional reading: A Poetry Handbook by Mary Oliver, available on BARD. About the Instructor: Alysa Chadow is a retired educator who taught blind and visually impaired students for over 30 years. Sessions include instruction, time for questions, and the opportunity to listen to and reflect on shared poems—your own or the work of published poets. Participants will write between sessions and may choose to share their work for supportive feedback. Sep 2(1 event) 12:30 pm: Hands On Ukulele (in-person) – Earle Baum Campus, 4539 Occidental Rd, Santa Rosa Always wanted to play an instrument and not sure how to get started? Come to the EBC campus on Tuesdays for an all levels Ukulele class. The parts of the ukulele, strings, chords, are all taught through description and assistance. Volunteers, called chord callers, will verbally call out the cord ahead of time, as an accessible way of reading music. The class starts at a more beginner level allowing for everyone to play and warm up, and progresses to more challenging songs. Playing music has been known to develop dexterity, improve cognitive function, exercises the brain, enhances memory, and is simply FUN! Bring your voice and enthusiasm and join in the fun.
