Our dedicated volunteers offer essential support and companionship to our LightHouse community members. Whether you’re interested in volunteering your time or requesting assistance, our volunteer services are here to help. Here’s an overview of what to expect.

What do volunteers do at LightHouse?

Volunteers are trusted and reliable members of the LightHouse community who can assist with various tasks and activities around the home, neighborhood, and/or town. Some examples of things that volunteers can do are:

  • Meeting regularly to sort and read mail
  • Accompanying individuals on errands, like the grocery store, the post office, and the library
  • Going on walks and exploring the neighborhood
  • Going for a hike, a bike ride, or for a run

How are volunteers selected?

All volunteers are trained, background checked, and approved to work with the LightHouse community before starting.

How are volunteers matched?

Volunteers are matched one-on-one based on the unique needs of the members of our blind and low vision community. Once matched, both individuals will coordinate their schedules, and work together to develop a strong partnership.
