Learn to Use NFB-NEWSLINE

Are you unable to easily read newspapers due to vision loss, physical disability or Dyslexia? Learn how to use the NFB-NEWSLINE Information Service. It is a free service and multiple ways of accessing it means there's a good fit for you.
NFB-NEWSLINE is an information access service that offers you more than 200 US and international newspapers, more than 50 magazines, TV and job listings, news about state and local events, and much more. Listen on the phone, access it on devices, or have magazines and newspapers delivered to your email. This is your opportunity to connect with our partners at the San Francisco Public Library's Talking Books and Braille Center to learn all the ways that NFB-NEWSLINE can enhance your access to the world and even get signed up for the service. Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) is now offering an Orientation & Mobility Immersion Program! Our week long program is designed to develop those O&M skills most relevant to guide dog mobility. Students will work with specially trained O&M specialists at one of our partner organizations and will be instructed on various techniques such as:
Students will also participate in exercises to help simulate travel with a guide dog (Juno exercises) and learn to apply their sensory awareness and travel skills in a practical way. First time students will get to participate in Juno exercises with a guide dog instructor followed by an experience walk with a guide dog on the same route.

Scanning Showdown
Have you ever wished you had an app for reading mail or simply accessing printed text on the go? Do you want to know the options available for portable scanning of documents? If so this is the workshop for you. Join us on July 30 from 1-4:00 p.m. and share in our exploration of mobile scanning apps. We will be looking at both free and low cost scanning apps designed to improve our access to the printed word. Join us and discover ways to access the information on a sign, business card or document you need to read when at rest or on the go. An RSVP is required for this class.
