Every individual is visually --impaired so discussions will be set in a comfortable, confidential setting with no judgments. Refreshments provided. • Poi Fire Art Workshop: April 10 1:00 pm-3:00 pm Poi originates from the traditional performing arts of the Maori people of New Zealand, and has since developed many forms enjoyed worldwide as a hobby, exercise or performance art, alongside juggling and other forms of object manipulation. Please join poi performers Jeff Starr, Valerie Mate and Audrey Whaling. In this introduction to poi, learn basic technique, initial moves and tips to begin the journey of learning this art form. No experience necessary. Come with an open mind and prepare for a fun afternoon. Bring a pair of old socks and a pair of knee socks. • Mega Self-Defense for the Visually Impaired: April 10 3:00pm-6:00pm This program was developed specifically for the visually impaired. Every workshop will cover physical techniques along with discussion of laws and self-defense theory that specifically affect the blind/visually impaired community. • Evening Dance Class: Thursday’s 5:30pm to 7:00pm Every month will feature a different dance style. Gene Russo, the instructor, has a versatile range of expertise from the traditional ballroom styles like the Tango to Latin styles like Salsa. You are encouraged to come in a group, but no partner is required. Partners will be rotated to build a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. • Evening Hatha Yoga Class: Thursday’s 6:00pm to 7:30pm The weekly class works on a large variety of poses that strengthen and refresh the entire body, mind, and spirit. Drop in students are welcome. • “Toastmasters” Do you have an interest in participating in a toastmasters group at the LightHouse? Toastmasters are a great way to build confidence, improve your communication skills, and build up your leadership potential. Participants practice and learn skills ranging from giving a prepared speech or an impromptu one, to serving as timer, evaluator or grammarian. There is no instructor, instead, each speech and meeting is critiqued by a member in a positive manner, focusing on what was done right and what could be improved.
