I’m riding with Jessica!

When was your first Cycle for Sight? 2017 will be my first Cycle for Sight.

Why do you love riding in Cycle for Sight? I would like to ride in the beautiful Napa Valley and most importantly raise money for people who can benefit from the camp experiences at Enchanted Hills Camp.

What’s your best cycling memory? After riding miles on a tandem as a young college or high school student, my body was sore for many days because I was so out of shape.

What’s your favorite quote? “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”  – Philippians 4:13 KJV

When was your first Cycle for Sight?  My first time riding a tandem in Cycle for Sight  was in 1995. This will be my first ride in 21 years.

What’s your best cycling memory? My best Cycle for Sight member was 21 years ago.  We were doing 50 miles. It was a big challenge going up that big hill! A big  shower came in the middle of our ride and we went to a winery  for shelter. They treated us with great food and good wine.

What’s your favorite quote?   “Only I can change my life. No one can do it for me.”  -Carol Burnett

Why do you love riding in Cycle for Sight?
I love being out on a tandem exploring the countryside. I’m looking forward to meeting other riders and celebrating on the 22nd.

What’s your best cycling memory? My best cycling memory is hard to come up with because there are so many. Most involve riding along the coast on stretches with no cars. Or flying down a long stretch of road in the early hours of morning.

What do you love most about riding for Cycle for Sight? I’m looking forward to helping the LightHouse, getting outdoors, and making new friends.

What’s your best cycling memory? Probably cruising down a not-too-steep hill on the back of a tandem.

What’s your favorite quote? “I was put on this earth to accomplish certain things. I am so far behind now that I will never die.”

I’m riding with Will Butler!

When was your first Cycle for Sight? My first Cycle for Sight is on April 22nd, 2017 and I am currently at stoke level 11 (on a 10 point scale).

Why do you love riding in Cycle for Sight? I want to support more people having access to two things that I love: cycling and the great outdoors.  I have little tandem experience and thought this would be a great reason to take on a new challenge with fun people to share it with.  I also enjoy music, wine, and food, and I am told that I will find all three at the end of the ride.

What’s your best cycling memory? It was a great day when a childhood friend showed me how to stick baseball cards in my bike spokes, which makes a bike sound like a cartoon motorcycle when the wheels turn.  We terrorized the neighborhood on our “Harleys” for several days following the discovery.

What’s your favorite quote? “When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.” – Hunter S. Thompson

I’m riding with Rob!Two men pedal a tandem bike whilst giving the camera a thumbs up.

When was your first Cycle for Sight? My first Cycle 4 Sight was 2016.

Why do you love riding in Cycle for Sight? I like the ride because it gives me the chance to do some serious miles again since losing my sight.

What’s your best cycling memory? My favorite cycling memory is tough to decide, having had so many over the course of 40,000 miles of bike touring, but I would have to pick my 1976 ride up the 142-mile Icefields Parkway from Banff to Jasper National Parks in the Canadian Rockies.  The scenery was incredible, and the weather was perfect.  It was the highlight of my 1900-mile Bicentennial tour of the Canadian Rockies and vicinity.

A man standing before a long sidewalk smiles with sunglasses perched on his head.

When was your first Cycle for Sight? It’s my first time.

Why do you love riding in Cycle for Sight? Riding my bike in traffic to get to work just doesn’t cut it.  I can’t wait to be riding for a great cause, in the countryside, surrounded by great people, smelling vineyard, and sharing stories with my tandem-buddy.

What’s your best cycling memory? I learned to ride my bike pretty late compared to my friends. When I did it opened up my world and I spent my days exploring my neighborhood and rolling down hills.

I’m riding with Sam Offenberg!

Communications director Will Butler laughs as he buttons the top of his shirt in front of a white background

When was your first Cycle for Sight? Never! I’m fresh as the morning dew.

Why do you love riding in Cycle for Sight? As Communications Director at LightHouse, I made this promo video, and it was so convincing that I actually convinced myself! I loved riding bikes as a kid but have not ridden since I became legally blind, and now I’m realizing there’s no reason for me to stop! I am a little nervous about learning tandem though.

What’s your best cycling memory? Riding the river paths between Sebastopol and Santa Rosa, where I grew up. I also loved just riding around the neighborhood with my friends as a kid.

What’s your favorite quote? “There’s got to be more to life than having everything.”
