Screen Readers, document readers, even Smart Speakers; as people who are blind and have low vision, we are surrounded by synthetic speech. Unfortunately, for some of us, the less than human tones issuing from these devices can make it difficult to comprehend the information we receive. Despite this, Text to Speech is an incredibly powerful option, and you can learn to make the most of listening with a minimum of discomfort.
In this workshop, we want to talk about ways that you can acclimate to using text to speech for the first time, or learn to listen with greater speed and efficiency.
This workshop will cover:
-Why and how you might add text to speech to your toolbox.
-Customizing your experience: Choose the right voice for the job, and then teach it to tell you what you need to know in the best way to say it.
-Tips and Tricks for increasing the amount you can read, how fast you can read it, and how well you understand it.
This workshop will be conducted using the Zoom platform. You can connect to Zoom using a computer, an app or by dialing in from any phone.
