    October 7 and 21, November 4 and 18, and December 2 and 16
    Speak Up Skills is a six-week, peer-led support group designed for people adjusting to vision loss. Are you struggling to adapt to changes in your vision? Do you feel alone in navigating daily life with impaired vision? This group offers a supportive space to share experiences, insights, and strategies for living independently with changing vision.
    Following a cycle of topics from Hannah Fairbairn’s When You Can’t Believe Your Eyes: Vision Loss and Personal Recovery, we’ll practice communication skills such as self-advocacy, boundary setting, and speaking up in medical settings, social events, and at home. Sessions include discussion, peer sharing, and role-plays.
    Reading the book is not required, but it is available on BARD (DBC11619) for those who want to explore more deeply. Space is limited; priority will be given to new participants, though returning students are always welcome.

    Always wanted to play an instrument and not sure how to get started? Come to the EBC campus on Tuesdays for an all levels Ukulele class. The parts of the ukulele, strings, chords, are all taught through description and assistance. Volunteers, called chord callers, will verbally call out the cord ahead of time, as an accessible way of reading music. The class starts at a more beginner level allowing for everyone to play and warm up, and progresses to more challenging songs. Playing music has been known to develop dexterity, improve cognitive function, exercises the brain, enhances memory, and is simply FUN! Bring your voice and enthusiasm and join in the fun.

Enjoy fun activities with your little one, ages 0-6, while learning strategies to support your child's visual, sensory, motor and concept development. Connect with other families who understand and share your experience raising a child who is blind, has low vision, or Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). Weekly activities are designed to be accessible for all, and to build upon monthly themes that you can integrate into your family routines. All are welcome!

    Based on the hit 1980 film, Fame follows the lives of students at New York’s High School for the Performing Arts as they navigate challenges, personal growth, and the pursuit of their dreams between 1980 and 1984. This live touring production is performed by talented high school students from Crossroads School of Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, California.

    Join fencing coaches and movement specialists Brandon Smith and Stacey Breidenstein from SF Fencing Academy for an intro to the sport of Blind Fencing. Fencing has been taught to the blind and visually impaired in the US since the 1950s! The series will cover the foundational concepts of the sport including fencing stance and footwork, how to orient yourself on the fencing strip or the area of play, blade work including attacks and parries (blocks), how to participate in a bout, as well as tactics and strategy. In class we’ll explore learning through listening and feel, and explore areas of balance and proprioception through fun, guided movement, and fencing drills. Come learn this game of tactical tag in a fun, safe, supportive environment.

    Join our Board Chair, Jennison Asuncion, alongside Thomas Panek, CEO of LGI, and James (Jim) Dubin, LGI Board Chair, for another fireside chat. They will  provide an update on where things are with the exploration phase of the possible partnership between the two agencies as well as take your questions. We are excited this time to have both Thomas and Jim join us in-person. While this will be a hybrid event, we encourage as many of you who can, to join us live at the LH to have an opportunity to meet Jim and Thomas.

    The fireside chat and community Q&A will take place from 5:00 to 6:00 PM Pacific Time. This will be followed by a half-hour to mix and mingle with our guests.

    Planting Seeds Together: Your box will be coming in the mail and contain potting soil and cow pots. Each person will get 3 cow pots. Each paper bag has three envelopes. Each envelope is labeled what seeds are inside. Inside the envelope is a plastic sandwich bag that holds the seeds. People should open one envelope at a time over a plate of something that can collect the small seeds. The squash envelope has 2 seeds; Chard envelope has 6 seeds and Lettuce envelope has 5 seeds.
    Marney will describe how to do all of it for us.
