(All day): Teen Camp

(All day)
Jul 18 Jul 27

Extended in length by popular demand, our summertime teen session is the crown jewel of Enchanted Hills Camp, where the most dynamic and charged bonds occur. Teens get to ride horses, learn woodworking, take riflery, and perform in the Redwood Grove Theater. What’s particularly special about teen session is how most of the Counselors and CITs are blind or visually impaired themselves, and many have attended camp as young teens. Here teens in grades 9 through 12 will experience all the offered youth camp activities and special events, including the STEM track which is built into this year’s teen timeline. Additionally, campers will participate in activities geared toward building leadership abilities and setting goals for the future.

To apply, fill out the application online, or print out and send in a paper form. For more information and to get an application form, visit the camp session website.

(All day): Coding and Game Development Weekend

(All day)
Jul 20 Jul 21

LightHouse for the Blind and Facebook are excited to partner for a weekend of coding and game development at the Enchanted Hills Summer Camp. Campers will have an opportunity to work side-by-side with Facebook software engineers over two days. Together, we will build a web-based choose-your-own-path game. Working in small groups, campers will design the narrative of their game and then code the paths through the narrative. They may embellish the game with mystery, riddles, useful objects and plot twists – whatever the imagination can conjure.

We ask that participants have experience using computers, the web, keyboarding skills, and any assistive technology used to access their computers, such as screen readers or magnification, and at least a familiarity with coding HTML web pages. For campers who want to explore more complex game interactions, the game platform will support interaction options enabled via custom JavaScript. The Facebook engineers will collaborate and help campers push the boundaries of their current coding skills. The campers will also learn to use the version control system Git, which is widely used in open source and professional code projects.

Where: Enchanted Hills Camp
When: Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm both days
How: First complete the Teen Session Application at the EHC Teen Session website. Then email EHC Administrative Assistant Sydney Ji at sji@lighthouse-sf.org with a letter of recommendation from students TVI or Orientation and Mobility Specialist stating that the student meets the prerequisites for this exciting program opportunity. Please put Coding and Game Development Weekend in the Subject Line.

Youth Employment Series (YES) Academy

June 23 – July 21, 2019

This summer, we’re offering youth ages 16 to 24 a new opportunity: to live away from home, attend the world’s largest blindness convention, and gain real work experience in a month-long program based in downtown San Francisco.

Applications for YES Academy 2019 close on April 29, 2019. Visit the YES Academy website for applications and full details about the month-long adventure!

If you have any questions regarding the YES Summer Academy, please contact Ann Wai-Yee Kwong, Transition Program Specialist, by email at youth@lighthouse-sf.org or by phone at 415-694-7328.
