Gather online and share what you feel grateful for in a safe and welcoming space and hear what others share as well. These mid-week sessions can help you feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve your health, deal with adversity and build strong relationships.

Let loose your curiosity and sense of play in a supportive space where you are welcome to experiment with the current LightHouse projects, or bring your own craft to work on alongside friends. No experience is necessary. Wear or bring something you don't mind getting dirty.

    This October, we will continue exploring book structures such as map fold books, one page zines and stab stitch books along with other paper things that cam be opened such as origami boxes and envelopes.

    Get to know our block, heading left when leaving Lighthouse HQ. Let's meet at reception on the 10th floor then head out and explore a couple good spots to know. First, we will scope out Whole Foods and get to know the basic layout. Then, under the leadership of Volunteer Manager and Museums Maven, Allyson Ferrari, we will duck into Trinity Plaza right next door and take a look at the intriguing selection of sculpture throughout the space, much of which is tactile. There's outdoor seating where we can enjoy our lunch.

    Calling all blind and low vision movie lovers of all ages to join us for our next “Reel Escape Audio Description Movie Club” gathering. This time around we gather on white cane day in October to watch the 2004 film, Ray, with audio description. A story about the life and career of the legendary rhythm and blues musician Ray Charles, from his humble beginnings in the South, where he went blind at age seven, to his meteoric rise to stardom during the 1950s and 1960s.

    The program will be held Saturday, October 15 at 6:00 pm, with the movie starting shortly after all that join us for the event get a chance to say hello. Since the movie is 2 hours and 32 minutes, we will be sure to make space for and intermission and time after the film to share your thoughts about the movie. Since it is White Cane Day we will also make time to speak about our white canes and share any of our own favorite stories we have had with them.

    ***Parents and guardians***– The movie Ray (2014) has a parental guidance rating of PG-13 for, depiction of drug addiction, sexuality and some thematic elements. Parents of students that are under 13 years old must provide their permission via email before the start of the movie. Learn more about why this movie is rated PG-13. 

    What is white cane day? – White Cane Safety Day is a national observance in the United States, celebrated on October 15 of each year since 1964. The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or have low vision and the important symbol of blindness and tool of independence, the white cane.     Representatives from the San Francisco Department of Elections and The League of Women Voters will provide election-specific information, accessible voting options, and San Francisco and state-wide Ballot Briefs. These briefs will include information about propositions for the November 8 election.

    The Museum of Craft & Design is letting us in while they are closed, so we may experience an audio-described tour of their current woodwork exhibit, in addition to a haptic exploration of a few prototypes. The museum is located at 2569 3rd Street (the 48 bus drops at 20th St. & Minnesota). Tickets are $10.

    The Superfest Disability Film Festival features films from around the world celebrating disability culture by featuring work by and about people with disabilities.

    Watch the films in person or on-demand virtually.

    The first day of films take place at the Freight and Salvage at 2020 Addison St in Berkeley near the Downtown Berkley BART Station. After the first day of films, there will be community social time.

    The second day of films take place at the Asian Art Museum at 200 Larkin St. in San Francisco, across from the main library and near the Civic Center BART Station. After the second day of films, stay around for a panel discussion featuring some of the makers of one of the featured films.

    All films will have closed audio descriptions via the All4Access app.

    Artists, Makers, Creatives and thinkers; do we have the perfect Friday Night for you. Join together with other artists, writers, musicians, artisans and anyone who enjoys creative process to share works in progress and completed creations in a laid back and friendly vibe. Give and receive feedback about shared work if it's desired and support our community as they press forward to complete projects for festivals, shows or personal growth. Whatever you're making, bring it!
