May 4Over the years, video gaming has continued to grow even more popular, quickly becoming a part of everyday society. However, for those that are blind or have low vision, many of these games that our sighted friends play have had very limited accessibility features for the visual aspects of the games. In recent years Sony and other large video gaming platforms and the studios that create the hugely popular games many of us have heard about have made progress in adding features that can help those that are blind or have low vision gain access to the latest games our friends are playing.
To help our community learn about what’s new in accessible gaming, and allow a space for them to connect with peers, LightHouse’s Youth Program would like to invite you to our next Blind Gamer Meetup.
Join us on for an inclusive and exciting gaming gathering designed for individuals of all ages who are blind or have low vision. The agenda promises an enriching experience, starting with engaging conversations and captivating demonstrations of accessible video gaming. Followed by a thrilling adventure of video game exploration with your peers where we take turns playing popular games with accessibility features turned on. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and immerse yourself in the world of accessible video games!
Parents please note: Some of the games we will be demonstrating and talking about are designed for an older audience. Youth that are under 18 years old may only join our event with parent or guardian permission.

About the Exhibition
Irving Penn celebrates the approximately seven-decade career of one of the twentieth century’s most talented and preeminent photographers, known for his pared-down aesthetic, extraordinary technical skill, and artistic experimentation with the medium. A superb photographer of style, Penn revolutionized fashion photography in the postwar period, using neutral backgrounds to emphasize models’ characters through their gestures and expressions.

Performance begins at 2:00 pmThe final series in our 30th anniversary season, Dance Series 2 includes 4 short ballets, including a world premiere inspired by the life and music of Elvis Presley.
Dance Series 2 celebrates where we’ve been and where we’re going. Annabelle Lopez Ochoa takes inspiration from the life of Elvis in Tupelo Tornado, her first creation for Smuin. Amy Seiwert’s Broken Open, which the San Francisco Chronicle called “fresh, challenging, and relevant” at its 2015 premiere, returns, as well as Smuin Artist Brennan Wall’s Untwine, with its inventive and swirling lifts. Michael Smuin’s Starshadows, a dreamy piece for three couples to a Ravel score and one of his earliest works for the Company, completes the program.

Toastmasters is a place to develop skills of self-empowerment. It's a place to practice public speaking, improve communication, and build leadership skills. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month.

May 16The Talking Books and Braille Center (TBBC), located at 100 Larkin Street on the second floor of Main Branch of the San Francisco Public Library. TBBC is offering a series of five classes on March 21, April 18, May 16, June 20, and July 18 from 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm.
Adaptive yoga is a type of yoga that is inclusive of all body types and abilities. It is accessible to anyone, and various modifications are taught, allowing the poses to be adjusted to specific needs and abilities. Nancy Yates is offering a gentle yoga class, specifically designed for people with low vision or blindness of all age groups and experience levels. Nancy has been practicing yoga for 46 years and teaching since 1996. She has introduced Adaptive Yoga to the SF LightHouse, TBBC, SFVAMC, and other organizations. The class will move slowly and mindfully to calm the nervous system, stretch the body and build strength and stability. Please bring a blanket if you have one, as it can get chilly.
Yoga mats will be provided for each class, but space is limited, so please call 415-557-4253 to register.
