Vision runs on a 12-week cycle of topics based on Hannah Fairbairn’s 2019 book, When You Can't Believe Your Eyes: Vision Loss and Personal Recovery. We discuss different topics and share experiences, thoughts, and knowledge. We are people with similar experiences who genuinely want to support one another in all aspects of living independently with our changing vision. Each week the topics are independent, so you can join the group at any week. Reading is not required. However, if you would like topic details beyond our discussions, please refer to the book which is available on Braille and Audio Reading Download (DB C11619).

July 1: Chapter 7: A Home That Works for Everyone provides practical advice for individuals with changing vision on creating a safe and functional living environment. It covers strategies for advocating changes in shared spaces, securing the home, cooking safely, organizing medications, and maintaining personal grooming. The chapter emphasizes balancing safety and independence, leveraging technology, and seeking support to enhance quality of life.

July 15: Chapter 8 Social Encounters Without Good Vision addresses the challenges of social interactions for individuals with vision loss, and the importance of visual cues in communication. It offers strategies to adapt to social settings, introduces the "Three S's" (Seated, Simple, and Small) for managing engagements, and discusses the role of companions for initial support. The chapter also underscores self-care and gradual independence.
