Oct 21

In-person attendees can join us at Earle Baum Campus, 4539 Occidental Rd, Santa Rosa

Although there isn’t a right or wrong way to meditate, it’s important to find a practice that meets your needs. There are many popular types of meditation practice: mindfulness, spiritual, focused, movement, mantra, visualization and passage meditation are some. We will discuss and practice together. Input and reflection from everyone is encouraged.

Vision runs on a 12-session cycle of topics based on Hannah Fairbairn’s 2019 book, “When You Can't Believe Your Eyes: Vision Loss and Personal Recovery”. We discuss different topics and share experiences, thoughts, and knowledge. We are people with similar experiences who genuinely want to support one another in all aspects of living independently with our changing vision. Each week the topics are independent, so you can join the group at any week. Reading is not required. However, if you want topic details beyond our discussions, please refer to the book available on NLS BARD at (DBC11619).

Oct 7: Chapter 11, Personal Recovery: A Multi-Front Campaign, focuses on the proactive approach needed for personal recovery after vision changes. It highlights the importance of assertiveness and adjusting to a multi-sensed life through daily practices like organizing spaces, engaging in creative interests, and using technology. The chapter emphasizes the need for shifting away from a sight-dominated world and using other senses for tasks to enhance independence. It also explores the emotional and social aspects of recovery, advocating for community support, maintaining relationships, and finding confidence in one’s self-worth amidst changing circumstances.

Oct 21: Chapter 12, A Whole Person Again, emphasizes that life with vision changes can still be fulfilling and independent. Trusting yourself and speaking up are essential steps in regaining control. Support from mentors, rehabilitation programs, or family teams can provide necessary guidance. Building self-trust takes time, but it enables you to assert your needs, continue working, and live fully. With the right tools, you can rediscover a strong sense of self and purpose.

The events for the upcoming week are read aloud on our event hotline every Friday, which can be accessed by calling 415-694-7325. For more information about visiting the Adaptations Store, head to our shop page.
