  • Inventor for a day with the creator of Bop It! (in-person)

Inventor for a day with the creator of Bop It! (in-person)

    Dec 3

Bop It! Twist It! Pull It and Pass it! For 25 years, this simple and sassy game has brought joy and connections for so many in the LightHouse community through simple audible prompts. It’s a gateway to making friends while playing a game that does not rely on having sight.

Now, middle and high school LightHouse students have the chance to meet Dan Klitsner, the inventor of Bop It, for a guided tour of his studio to experience where and how the magic happens. Included in our tour is a hands-on history lesson of Bop It, time to play with the new Bop It Button and compete with each other on the giant one-of-a-kind Bop It game that lives in Dan’s studio. Students who sign up for this unique experience will get a rare chance to learn from an inventor about what it takes to take an idea and create something from it. As well as all this fun and interaction, there will be pizza!! We can’t wait, can you?

This tour is limited to eight people. In addition to the opportunities during the tour, students who sign up for this outing will also get the chance to practice or learn about using public transit with experienced blind and low vision mentors leading the way on the short Muni ride from LightHouse headquarters to the Bop It studio near the Montgomery BART Station.

RSVP to Jamey Gump at JGump@lighthouse-sf.org or 415-694-7372 by Friday, December 2.

College Spaces from Different Places: Winter Celebration (in-person)

    Dec 3

Not only is the winter season a time of celebrating for many, but it is also the anniversary of the launch of College Spaces. From an abundance of new and returning members, getting to incorporate in-person outings for the group for the first time, to all of the exciting things yet to come, there is certainly much to celebrate. We invite all current College Spaces members to join us this December 3 for an evening of food, friends, and plenty of coffee and cocoa to go around.

We’re inviting everyone to bring a gift to exchange under $15. If cost is a barrier, please reach out – we want to ensure all of our College Spaces members can join!

College Spaces from Different Places is a peer led student organization which cultivates connections and community for all undergraduate college students. College Spaces from Different Places is a group designed by and for low vision and blind students to have fun, build community, and share in our struggles and accomplishments. Many undergrads are currently missing out on forming social connections on their own college campus. Therefore, joining College Spaces from Different Places will give you an opportunity to come together with others from across the state. Leave your books and syllabi behind and join us!

If you have any questions or would like to be part of future College Spaces from Different Places gatherings, contact Daisy Soto DSoto@lighthouse-sf.org or call 415-694-7328To learn more. Please RSVP by December 2, 2022.

  • Youth Program Holiday Party (in-person)

    Youth Program Holiday Party (in-person)

    Dec 10

For years, students of the LightHouse Youth Program have enjoyed a festive gathering around the winter holidays that in the past have included games, food, decorations, and lots of fun. We had to take a break from this event during the pandemic, but now that we are back in person, we look forward to continuing this tradition. Members of our Youth Program Council are taking the lead on organizing and hosting the activities at this year’s event.

Festivities take place at LightHouse at 1155 Market in San Francisco. Once we have gathered and had some food, LightHouse Youth Council Members will lead us through some holiday games and activities, such as a gingerbread house competition and a white elephant gift exchange. After our games, we will have time to hang out and enjoy some live music, accompanied by hot chocolate and cookies before we wrap things up for the evening.

    White Elephant Gift Exchange reminders

We are asking guests to bring a gift that is between $10 and $20 that is age-appropriate and does not include cash or unpackaged food. Extra gifts can be provided upon request for those that might not be able to afford to contribute a gift to the exchange. Learn more about a White Elephant Gift Exchange.

Saturday, December 10, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm

RSVP to Jamey Gump at JGump@lighthouse-sf.org or by 415-694-7372. Those who RSVP by 9:00 am on December 9 will be provided dinner.

Enchanted Hills Camp Alumni Holiday Concert (online)

    Dec 15

For the third year in a row friends and supporters of Enchanted Hills Camp wish to show their appreciation for the LightHouse community by hosting a free virtual EHC Alumni holiday concert. Musicians who have attended camp sessions, music camp or been a camp counselor or volunteer will join LightHouse and EHC staffers to celebrate the spirit of EHC past, present and future.

Camp Director Tony Fletcher says, “Our virtual concert has become a holiday tradition for the community. These concerts are important for people who want to share their work and it’s the musicians’ way of saying thank you for supporting Enchanted Hills Camp by attending, donating, volunteering or working at EHC thru the years.

Says former camper and staff member Rachel Grider, about EHC, “I worked as a counselor during the summer of 2013. It was an unforgettable experience to work with so many fantastic colleagues and campers. I saw firsthand the difference camp made in the lives of campers as they participated in activities and formed friendships. It is a pleasure for me to help camp by performing in this concert.”

Other featured EHC alumni performers include Christina Daniels, Derek Dittmar, Ellie Kneer, Hannah Clemenson, Jackie Nguyen, Marina Sandoval, Masceo Williams and Shane Dittmar,

When: Thursday, December 15 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Pacific
