9:30 am: The Business of Blindness: Call with Mike Cole (online)All students, customers, visitors and staff are required to wear a mask at all of our sites. 9:30 am: The Business of Blindness: Call with Mike Cole (online) – What does it really mean to be blind or low vision? Mike Cole, a veteran of all things blindness, will lead this call-in forum to discuss the many day-to-day ins-and-outs of blindness—from daily living in your home environment to navigating the vast expanse of bureaucracies. There's always a lively crowd sharing their own experiences, so make a cup of coffee (or tea), sit in your favorite chair and call in to chat the business of blindness. For more information including dial in details, contact Sabrina at sbolus@lighthouse-sf.org. 9:45 am: Low Vision Skills: Putting It All TogetherAll students, customers, visitors and staff are required to wear a mask at all of our sites. 9:45 am: Low Vision Skills: Putting It All Together – The Low Vision Skills: Putting It All Together course is composed of essential topics recommended for all participants who are new to low vision. Adult clients of their state Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) are invited to participate in a six-session course geared towards learning about their changes in vision and practical ways to maximize successful, independent living skills in work and school environments. The course is divided into six lessons over three weeks: a 2.5-hour introductory lesson with a Low Vision Optometrist, Social Worker, and two Certified Low Vision Therapists, followed by five, 2.5-hour lessons which will include practical skills taught by the Certified Low Vision Therapists. It is a comprehensive skills training distance course introducing participants to foundational low vision concepts, skills, and current technologies for maximizing successful, independent daily living skills. After the six-session course, participants can expect to feel more confident in using their vision and making changes in their environment for independent daily living skills. Thereafter, participants can be eligible for individualized Low Vision Therapy lessons. The classes will be taught via Zoom Video Conferencing (preferred) or phone at the following dates and times (Pacific Standard Time): Week 1: Monday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 31 – 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Week 2: Monday, April 5 and Wednesday, April 7 – 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Week 3: Monday, April 12 and Wednesday, April 14 – 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Please RSVP by Monday, March 1 to coordinate authorization through your DOR counselor and to be able to receive class materials in time for the first class on Monday, March 29. 2:00 pm: Tech Together: Moderating a MeetingAll students, customers, visitors and staff are required to wear a mask at all of our sites. 2:00 pm: Tech Together: Moderating a Meeting – Join the LightHouse Access Technology team for a series of informal conversations on technology topics relevant to these current times. Tech Together: Moderating a Meeting If you’re curious about scheduling, hosting, and moderating a Zoom meeting using access technology, we’ll share what we have learned during this first year of Virtual Tech together. Whether you’re wondering how to reduce background noise, how to find raised hands, or how to share your screen, come join us for this tour of Tech Together behind the scenes.
