Our award-winning Employment Immersion program is now available virtually. Now is the time to join us via the Zoom conferencing platform. The program begins the first Monday of every month and runs each weekday. This comprehensive month-long training is specifically designed for people who are blind and have low vision. We are committed to providing group and individual guidance from the fundamentals of job search, to the complexities of disclosure of one’s disability with pride and confidence, to instruction on job search techniques, to honing interview skills. Most importantly, this program focuses on the participant’s individual job goals.

12:00 pm: Summer in the City: TMAPs will get you moving!


May 24

Whether your summer plans include a vacation to a favorite destination or a staycation in your town, it’s time to get navigating with tactile maps! Hear from Greg Kehret, Director of Media and Accessible Design Laboratory at San Francisco’s LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, as he introduces TMAP, a tool to generate tactile maps. Experts from the APH will share how to use the PixBlaster to print TMAPS and will also explore ways to create and embellish tactile graphics using low-tech products.

An Evening of Technology with Jeffrey Colon

Do you have questions about assistive technology? Are you interested in learning more about what types of tech training the LightHouse offers? If so, join us this May when our own assistive technology specialist, Jeffrey Colon, will be our presenter. Originally from Puerto Rico, Jeffrey has been helping blind and visually impaired students improve their technology skills during both English and Spanish classes for many years. Bring your questions, friends, and enthusiasm, and spend a summer evening as part of what will surely be a great conversation!
