ROLE OVERVIEW: (Main Duties)

The Production Assistant is responsible for conducting ADA/CBC signage compliance review, and embossing/printing Braille, tactile graphics, and other Alternate Formats, and supporting day-to-day operation of the Media and Accessible Design Lab (MAD Lab) department on an as-needed basis.

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidate must be able to manipulate and read calipers, possess basic computer skills (Excel, Word, MS Paint). Preference will be given to anyone familiar with the basics of Adobe Illustrator (or similar).

Education or equivalent:

  • High School Diploma. Working towards an AA or BA, or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite of software (Word, Excel, MS Paint, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Braille literacy preferred
  • Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Acrobat Pro preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in access technology preferred

Job Responsibilities:

  • The Production Assistant will pick-up/drop-off deliveries of ADA sign packages to 1155 Market
  • The Production Assistant will unpack signs so they can all be reviewed for braille and organize them by type
  • The Production Assistant will inventory all signs, entering them into an ADA Checklist spreadsheet
  • The Production Assistant will take measurements of representative signs and samples (measured using calipers and the “ADA Signage Check Template for Braille and Raised Text”), and record measurements in an ADA Checklist spreadsheet
  • The Production Assistant, will take measurements of PDF shop drawings (measured using Adobe Illustrator), and record measurements in an ADA Checklist spreadsheet
  • The Production Assistant will complete a Job Log for each sign project, tracking their activities and time spent performing work
  • The Production Assistant will carefully re-pack all signs and arrange for pick-up/delivery
  • The Production Assistant will emboss/print information in Braille, tactile graphics, and other Alternate Formats
  • The Production Assistant will burst, collate, bind/staple, and label Braille, tactile graphics, and other Alternate Formats
  • The Production Assistant will:
    • pack embossed/printed media for shipping
    • Ship said boxes (either arranging for carrier pick-up, or delivering them to FedEx/UPS)
  • The Production Assistant will complete a Job Log for each Alt Media project, tracking their activities and time spent performing work
  • The Production Assistant will perform inventory counts
  • The Production Assistant will sweep, clean, and perform housekeeping, keeping the area neat and tidy
  • The Production Assistant will let their supervisor know when tasks have been completed
  • The Production Assistant will lift or carry ~40 lbs. throughout the day
  • The Production Assistant will alternately sit and/or stand for long periods
  • The Production Assistant is expected to complete any other duties as assigned by their supervisor
