The Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC) is located between San Francisco and Sacramento in California’s Central Valley on the University of California’s Davis campus, in Yolo County where agriculture is the primary industry.  The WHNRC strives to improve the health of all Americans by: creating and testing nutrition interventions to improve health; assessing how an individual’s environment and genetics affect nutrient metabolism; and providing reliable and reproducible research results for the development of national nutrition policies.

The incumbent performs a variety of office clerical and administrative support duties for the Research Leader and other members of the research unit.

Screens and directs visitors and phone calls.

Schedules appointments and maintains the Research Leader’s calendar.

Coordinates arrangements for meetings, conferences, and presentations.

Schedules travel arrangements and handle travel reimbursements for the Research Leader, and assists in these tasks for other WHNRC scientists as part of the Center’s administrative staff team.

Maintains confidential records.

Writes reviews and proofreads correspondence, reports and other documents for grammar, format, spelling, and punctuation.

Assists the Research Leader in maintaining and monitoring research unit expenditures and financial records.

Receives and distributes mail and maintains office files.

Assists with grant application submission and grant project reports.

Qualifications and Evaluations

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Your education and experience will be evaluated against all qualification requirements (basic and any additional requirements) listed below.

Basic Requirements:

GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level or 4 years of education above the high school level.

GS-06: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level or 6 months directly related graduate education.

Typing Speed: A minimum typing speed of 40 wpm is required.  All applicants must self-certify their typing speed on their application.  Applicants who do not document typing proficiency will not receive further consideration.

Additional Requirements:

Specialized Experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled.  The specialized experience requirements for this position are:

1.  Knowledge of clerical and administrative processes and procedures(such as correspondence, travel, etc.).
2.  Ability to plan and coordinate the work of an office and serve as liaison.
3.  Skill in using a personal computer and a varitey of software such as correspondenc, travel, etc.).
