Join the National Park Service in Access Planning!

The National Park Service (NPS) is inviting you to participate in the planning of a very important project in the Presidio.  The NPS is preparing an Environmental Assessment (EA) and is soliciting public comments on a proposal to improve three miles of the California Coastal Trail within the Presidio of San Francisco.  Please share this information with anyone who may have an interest or may be affected by this project.  We welcome your participation.

Proposed Actions Include:

Construction of a new trail bridge to serve pedestrians and bicyclists that spans the Battery Marcus Miller Covered Way to provide an accessible, multi-use trail from the Merchant Road parking lot to the
Golden Gate Bridge.

Expanded parking at Merchant Road to serve short-term visitors.

Expanded parking at Langdon Court to offset the loss of parking removed from the front of Battery Godfrey for a new overlook and future potential use of the area for an NPS maintenance facility with a visitor
contact facility

Construction of a new accessible, pedestrian-only trail that leaves the Lincoln Boulevard corridor at Battery Crosby Road and switchbacks down to and across Battery Chamberlain Road to Bowley Road.

Reconfiguration of beach access by removing the Sand Ladder Trail from Lincoln Boulevard to Baker Beach in compensation for the new pedestrian trail.

For more information please see the attached one-page flier, or visit the project website: http://parkplanning.nps.gov/goga and click on the Project Title (they are in alphabetical order). Public comments can best be incorporated into the final decision if received by December 15, 2009.
