Job Opening: UC Berkeley Disabled Students' Program Internship Coordinator

Departmental Overview
The Disabled Students’ Program (DSP) is recognized for its commitment to ensuring that all students with disabilities have equal access to educational opportunities at UC Berkeley and helps students to achieve academic and career success through its programs. DSP offers a wide range of services for students with disabilities.

Our newest program is fundedthrough the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), a federal program, time-limited and intended to enhance services to individuals in accordance with the ARRA principles. This stimulus program is designed to generate paid internships opportunities for UC Berkeley students with disabilities who are also Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) clients. The new ARRA program will be led by the ARRA Program Coordinator.

The ARRA Program Coordinator will focus on the development of strategies to assist UC Berkeley/DOR students/clients to locate and access viable employment opportunities by partnering with the business community and developing relationships with employers and employer groups. Special focus is on the development of On-the-Job Training (OJT) and internship opportunities for our eligible students. The intent of these services is to prepare and assist the individual(s) served to obtain and maintain a meaningful career.

The ARRA Program Coordinator will be relied upon to apply advanced professional career counseling concepts; work with each student’s DOR counselor to coordinate services; locate relevant area employers for internship placements; and, assist students in their internship placements.

Responsibilities
• Researches, designs, and develops workshops and programs to meet students’ and alumni’s career needs.
• Manages program improvement processes.
• Conducts needs assessments, and collaborates with faculty and other members of the University community in course design and development.
• Oversees career program technical systems, and uses thorough knowledge of career program and information systems to build applications and improve web sites and other supporting technologies.
• Presents sensitive and difficult information about the career program, including presentations to the media and the public.
• Establishes new relationships with corporations and other organizations related to career services for students and alumni to promote fundraising and enhance the campus’s relationship with outside organizations.
• Develops and oversees delivery of broad and complex career-focused programs and events that incorporate the needs of campus partners and constituents.
• Provides career counseling in particularly complex areas that require specialized expertise, such as PhD students who are investigating either academic careers and those outside academia, or students attaining J.D.s.

Required Qualifications
• As related to people with disabilities: expert knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, soft skills theory, counseling processes, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
• Knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practices, workshop and program design.
• Knowledge of University programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
• Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultures.

Preferred Qualifications
Three years of related work experience or a related advanced degree.

Salary & Benefits
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience: $57,000 – $102,600 (annually at a full-time rate). Note: this is a half-time contract position which will end 9/30/2010 with possibility of extension.
