EHC 2008 Session Information and Applications

Each summer, EHC sees over 430 campers. Through our nine camp sessions, we are able to serve campers ranging in age from six to ninety-nine.


Special Update: Our Adults with Special Needs, Provider's Weekend, Family I and II and Adult Sessions are now closed. We are no longer accepting applications for these four sessions. Continue checking this page for important updates.

Providers Weekend:  May 16 to May 18

*Unfortunately, our Providers Weekend Session is now closed. We are no longer accepting applications for this session*
Providers Weekend is an opportunity for individuals working in the field of Vision Loss to come together in an informal setting to network. This weekend retreat has been a great success for 11 years, enjoying attendance from both public and non-profit agencies all over the state. It is a weekend of great fun, great food and great people. Cost per participant: $100

Deaf-Blind Session: June 14 to June 17
This session is for adults 18 years and older with dual sensory loss. During this session, Deaf-Blind campers are brought together and provided opportunities to experience camp in the same way as their peers. Through an almost 1:1 camper to volunteer ratio, these campers are able to enjoy all that camp has to offer. Cost per participant: $400

Adult Session: June 19 to June 25

This session is for active, independent adults, 21 years of age and older. Some common activities during this session are swimming, horseback riding, hiking, arts & crafts and recreation. Some popular evening programs include dancing to live music, casino night, and a talent show. Cost per participant: $350.

Family Camp I:  June 26 to June 29

This session is designed for both families who have visually impaired children aged 17 and under and visually impaired parents with children age 17 and under. The entire family is welcome to join in the fun and fellowship. Camp activities will include swimming, horseback riding, crafts, games, campfires, and much more! Cost: $135 per adult age 18 and over; $60 per non-visually impaired child; visually impaired children and children 5 & under: Free

Adults with Special Needs: June 30 to July 5
*Unfortunately, our Adults with Special Needs Session is now closed. We are no longer accepting applications for this session*
This camp session is specifically designed to meet the needs of legally blind adults with a secondary cognitive or emotional disability. Based on previous sessions this session will be the first session to fill to capacity. Campers during this session must be able to independently care for themselves.
The camp program incorporates traditional camp activities with a focus on encouraging individuals to gain further independence. The staff to camper ratio for this session is 1:3. Cost per participant: $625

Elementary (grades 1 through 5): July 6 to July 12
During this session, young campers are encouraged to explore new challenges in a safe and supportive environment. Campers will gain a greater understanding and acceptance of their vision loss, leading to increased self confidence. The staff to camper ratio for this session is 1:3. Cost per participant: $25 registration fee only

Veterans Session: July 16 to July 19
This weekend will offer swimming, dancing, barbeque cooking, hiking, and special events for blind and visually impaired clients of the Veterans Administration. In 2007, EHC hosted a large group of Bay Area Veterans, including some new participants from the Veterans Administration Western Blind Rehabilitation Center in Palo Alto. Cost per participant: $200

Junior High School Session (grades 6 through 9): July 20 to July 27
Campers will participate in traditional camp activities and special events, including sports such as beep ball and goal ball. Program content is active, challenging and provides peer support. Campers have the opportunity to openly discuss issues related to growing up with vision loss, and have the opportunity to use the latest adaptive technology.
Campers lead poignant discussions focused on school, friends, family and the sighted world. It is an important time to learn about teasing, bullying, adaptations, and accessibility, plus what it means to often be the “blind kid” at school or the neighborhood. Cost per participant: $25 registration fee only

High School Session (grades 10 through 12): July 31 to August 9
The teens and young adults who attend this session will experience all the regular camp activities and special events. Additionally, they will also participate in activities geared towards building leadership abilities and setting goals for the future. Cost per participant: $25 registration fee only

Family Camp II: August 13 to August 16
