World of Sex: STIs

World of Sex: STIs

Dec 3

If you want to learn more about sexually transmitted infections (STI), how to prevent them and what to do if you have been exposed to an STI, then join the LightHouse’s Sexual Health Services Program Coordinator Laura Millar, MPH, M.A. for this opportunity.

This free workshop is for young adults ages 16 to 25 who are blind or have low vision. Please note that individuals younger than 18 need parental permission to attend.

The workshop will address common concerns about recognizing symptoms of STIs and accessing factual sexual-health information in an accessible alternative format.

Young blind and visually impaired adults are often confronted with multiple barriers to seeking and receiving STI testing and treatment. These barriers may be societal, attitudinal or simply due to a lack of information.  Space will be provided for participants to discuss issues or concerns that are unique to their shared experiences as blind and low vision individuals.  Participants should leave this workshop feeling more knowledgeable, confident and empowered to advocate for their own health care.

For more information or to RSVP contact Laura Millar at lmillar@lighthouse-sf.org or call her at 415-694-7345.
