Guest Speaker Series: Mia Grigg, Find Human Connection Through the Friendship Line

Aug 20

Guest Speaker Series: Mia Grigg, Find Human Connection Through the Friendship Line Monday, August 20, 1-2 PM 45 years ago, Dr. Patrick Arbore of the Center for Elderly Suicide Prevention and Grief Related Services founded the Friendship Line. The Friendship Line is a 24 hour, toll-free warmline and suicide hotline for older and/or disabled adults. In addition to receiving inbound calls, volunteers make daily outbound calls to provide crisis intervention, reassurance, emotional support, and well-being check-ins, providing support to those who may be physically or socially isolated, lonely, depressed, have suicide ideations, or just needs a lot of attention and reassurance. Today, volunteers make and receive 12,000 calls per month and Friendship Line Director Mia Grigg will join us to share more about this free, valuable, and long-standing San Francisco resource, how to receive services, become a volunteer, or share the service with someone who might benefit from human connection, as Dr. Arbore said, “Human connections are what bind us to life.” To RSVP, contact Adult Program Coordinator Serena Olsen at solsen@lighthouse-sf.org or 415-694-7316.
