Nov 27

Giving Tuesday is a global, online event celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (November 27) that kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving: a movement that celebrates and supports giving and philanthropy.

Created in 2012 by the team at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y—a cultural center in New York City that brings people together around the value giving back—Giving Tuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. Over 40,000 organizations including small businesses, nonprofits, government agencies and major corporations in 71 countries have joined the Giving Tuesday movement.

5:00 pm: YES Hosts Youth Annual White Elephant Party

Dec 15

YES Hosts Youth Annual White Elephant Party Saturday December 15th, 2018

Have you ever received a gift you neither wanted, nor had any use for? Well, here’s your opportunity to unload that cringe-worthy dust collector in a fun and humorous way. During the evening of Saturday, December 15th students from LightHouse’s YES Program will host blind and low vision youth for our annual White Elephant Party. The Festivities will begin at 5:00 pm and will include a meal prepared by YES students, evening entertainment and our always lively annual White Elephant Party. We ask each student that wishes to participate in the gift exchange to bring one wrapped gift valued at no more than $10. Gifts must be wrapped, tasteful and non-offensive. However, the more outrageous and/or funny the gift, the more fun we will have.

For those unfamiliar, a White Elephant party is a fun holiday gift giving party where participants bring humorous and inexpensive gifts to exchange. White elephant gifts are usually tacky, gaudy, inexpensive and of course, silly. The funnier and more absurd, the better! The best part of the game is "stealing" gifts from other participants. If you would like more information, or to RSVP for this event, please contact Jamey Gump, Youth Services Coordinator, at (415) 694-7372 or by email at jgump@lighthouse-sf.org. Please RSVP by Wednesday, December 12th.

Who: Students between the ages of 14-24 that are blind or have low vision
What: Annual Youth Program White Elephant Party
When: Saturday December 15th, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Where: LightHouse Headquarters @ 10th floor of 1155 Market St. San Francisco
Waiver: Each participant must complete a LightHouse intake process if they have not done so for a previous outing.
Things to bring: one wrapped gift in which the value does not exceed $10.00 for gift exchange.
