1:00 pm: Guest Speaker Series: Michael C. Healy, “Mr. BART

Dec 11

Many of us take BART for granted and even grumble at its frequent mechanical breakdowns, other delays and disruptions, and the array of experiences regular riders encounter within the system. The aging system is a work horse that currently supports twice the number of daily riders than it was designed for, and despite frustrations, most of us generally get where we need to go.  BART is the heart, spine, or perhaps the circulatory system of the Bay Area economy and it’s worth taking a moment to pause and consider this marvel and its impact on our lives today.

We are excited to welcome Michael C. Healy, author of “BART: The Dramatic History of the Bay Area Rapid Transit System” and also known as Mr. BART, as our Guest Speaker to share his 32 years of experience as BART’s Chief Spokesperson, present from the dream and design phase, through the rollout of construction and along decades of its development until his retirement in 2004.
