Youth Session

Jul 9 – Jul 15

Youth in grades 3 through 8, will participate in a variety of programs; including campfires, swimming, horseback riding, drama, arts and crafts, and adaptive sports. Campers are encouraged to explore new challenges independently with their new friends. Campers will gain greater understanding of their differences in eyesight and build self-confidence as they bond with others with shared experience.

Looking to get outside, be active, and meet new friends? Come join our new Summer Walking Meet-up! Throughout the summer, we will be going on regular walks in the San Francisco Bay Area. All fitness levels are welcome and we hope to see you there!

Extended in length by popular demand, our summertime Teen session is the crown jewel of Enchanted Hills Camp, where the most dynamic and charged bonds occur. Teens get to ride horses, learn woodworking, take riflery, and perform in the Redwood Grove Theater. What’s particularly special about Teen session is how most of the Counselors and CITs are blind or visually impaired themselves, and many have attended camp as young teens. Here teens in grades 9 through 12 will experience all the offered youth camp activities and special events, including the STEAM track which is built into this year’s teen timeline. Additionally, campers will participate in activities geared toward building leadership abilities and setting goals for the future.

Every week, our knitters gather to share their purls of wisdom and get in the loop on each other’s latest project, and usually end up in stitches spinning yarns. Whether you knit for pleasure, distraction or just practical economics, or you’ve never done it before and want to give it a try, there’s always room for another loom. Learn, refine, or teach a skill that makes your gift-giving budget lighter weight or support a student-led altruistic project like knitting chemo caps, beanies for babies, lap blankets or other creative applications.

30% & Growing Thursday, July 19, 6-8 PM The Englander Sports Pub & Restaurant 101 Parrott St., San Leandro 30% & Growing returns to San Leandro, join us for hearty pub food and a staggering array of suds. You can even spend a little quality time with your favorite LightHouse community worker bees in the process, it’s a win-win! It’s a casual meet up with your blind working friends, it’s a networking opportunity for aspiring blind worker bees-to-be, and it’s everything in between. It’s also summer and the patio is expansive. Enjoy a community dinner and lots of rollicking bingo fun on the third Friday of each month at the LightHouse. RSVP by noon on the Tuesday prior and $7 covers your dinner (RSVP later or not at all and your dinner is $10). Braille and large print bingo cards make bingo accessible for everyone. Bring a handful or two of coins for small-change competitiveness … we play a couple of nickel games, several dimes games, and after dessert, one quarter gets you three games – good company – good food – good fun!
