Campers are encouraged to explore new challenges independently with their new friends. Campers will gain greater understanding of their differences in eyesight and build self-confidence as they bond with others with shared experience. More information as well as the application forms can be found on the camp session website. 2:15 pm: Try it Workshop: Aerial Hoop2:15 pm: Try it Workshop: Aerial Hoop – A lyra hoop is a circular ring similar to a hula hoop that's suspended in the air by a cable or any lengthy cord attached to the ceiling. It's often used by circus performers in showcasing aerial acrobatics for their acts.The Lighthouse is partnering with San Francisco Pole and Dance to present this Try It Workshop. If you've ever wanted to try this fun form of exercise and aerial art, this workshop is for you! We are looking for a small group of blind and visually impaired adults to attend a private class where you will learn the basics of lyra in a safe and supportive environment. Because of this wonderful partnership, we can offer this class at the very low cost of ten dollars. Teens get to ride horses, learn woodworking, take riflery, and perform in the Redwood Grove Theater. What’s particularly special about teen session is how most of the Counselors and CITs are blind or visually impaired themselves, and many have attended camp as young teens. Here teens in grades 9 through 12 will experience all the offered youth camp activities and special events, including the STEM track which is built into this year’s teen timeline. Additionally, campers will participate in activities geared toward building leadership abilities and setting goals for the future. For more information and to get an application form, visit the camp session website. 1:30 pm: Lightening Nutrition Counseling1:30 pm: Lightening Nutrition Counseling – Enjoy a fifteen-minute one-on-one nutrition counseling session with Alicia Conner who is a visually impaired, Registered Dietitian and excited to provide her services to the LightHouse community. You will leave your session with practical steps to take that will leave you feeling healthier and closer to your goals. Alicia is hoping to offer sessions every third Friday of each month between 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., so check the calendar and stay tuned. Sessions are free and on a first-come, first-serve basis. RSVP by noon on the Tuesday prior and $7 covers your dinner (RSVP later or not at all and your dinner is $10). Braille and large print bingo cards make bingo accessible for everyone. Bring a handful or two of coins for small-change competitiveness … we play a couple of nickel games, several dimes games, and after dessert, one quarter gets you three games – good company – good food – good fun!
